Understand how micro-surgical ear drum reconstruction stops chronic ear discharge, protects middle ear ossicles, and significantly improves hearing.

What Causes a Hole in the Eardrum (Tympanic Perforation)?

A perforated eardrum is a tear or hole in the thin tympanic membrane separating the outer ear canal from the middle ear. Common causes include chronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM), recurrent childhood ear infections, insertion of cotton swabs or sharp pins, and barotrauma.

Key Symptoms of Eardrum Perforation

  • Continuous or intermittent pus discharge from the ear (Otorrhea).
  • Gradual or sudden conductive hearing loss.
  • Ringing or buzzing noise in the ear (Tinnitus).
  • Ear fullness, itching, and recurrent middle ear pain during water exposure.

Microscopic Tympanoplasty Procedure

Dr. Varsha Raj (MS ENT) performs high-magnification Microscopic Tympanoplasty at Vashu Hospital:

  • The damaged eardrum is delicately reconstructed using the patient's own natural temporalis fascia graft.
  • Middle ear ossicular chain (hearing bones) are inspected and reconstructed (Ossiculoplasty) if damaged by infection.
  • Stops recurring ear discharge permanently and restores hearing acuity.
